Orbit Ethiopia Plc has been engaged in small scale mineral exploration, mining and processing since 2000 in Ethiopia. Orbit is the first in the country to set up commercial lapidary in 2009. Since then the company has been specialized in the cutting and polishing of the world renowned Wello Opal for the international market.

Orbit has invested in qualified professionals who are trained in colored stones. As a result, the company has been very successful in supplying high grade opals to jewelers and gem dealers all over the World. Orbit is the ‘go-to’ supplier for quality cut and polished Ethiopian gemstones; in particular Opal. The fact that the gemstones are ethically sourced; our company has a reliable supply has allowed us to stand out from the crowd.

Our Priorities

Orbit is currently providing full time employment for 30 young girls/women and men ensuring that we give due attention to our social responsibility. We are proud that we are able to provide more opportunity to young girls, by pro-actively working in the prevention of human trafficking.

We provide our staff with technical training both in theory and practical practice, enabling them to build their skills as well as confidence thereby improving their economic status. Due to the aforementioned commitment, we have now built a strong team that has become the soul of Orbit.

Orbit strongly believes in giving back to the community. We are strong proponents of leaving the world better than we found it. We are able to put that in practice not only by running a socially responsible business but also by initiating and leading environmentally responsible activities such as awareness creation and education in conservation, reforestation and recycling.
